Finding the best vacation rental experience:
Getting the most from your spending budget:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the most suitable rental within budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for local tours, shops, and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Start by selecting your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Exclusive Low Country Island Estate Excellent Choice Of Large Groups, has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If they are not listed, email the property management company before you book the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You'll need to establish what is optimal for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
- Are you looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- To ensure that damages are not linked to your stay, note any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to record any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
