Booking the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- To find the best value, consider shifting your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer pleasant weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning, selecting, and booking the best Charleston area vacation home:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. ?Downtown Duplex w\/Porch, Yard + FREE Parking has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email the property management company before booking your home. Remember that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to book a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, size, and type requirements. Some property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of issues.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible source for finding the best local spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
- Re-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave feedback! Hosts rely on good feedback to compel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
