Tips and Tricks to get the perfect Charleston area vacation property experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your vacation rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To book the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

How to pick the best rental:

  • Choose your vacation week and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. Downtown 2 bed, 2 bath, pet friendly apartment ~Bumble Bee has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what configuration is right for your family.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or charges applied to your agreement.
  • Are you looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Know before you go:

  • Get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let burglars spoil your family vacation.
  • At Check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Remember to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
