Tricks and tips to get the best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Getting the best value:
- To find the best value, consider shifting your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides have coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Selecting the best vacation rental in the Charleston area area:
- To start, have your group select trip dates and a budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. STEPS to King St. 6BD Home - Spacious + Updated! has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. .
- Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be useful if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
