Our top Charleston area rental property booking tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Often, rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Make a plan and choose your prefect Charleston area rental home:
- To start, have your family agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Lovely 4BR\/2BA Home! Less Than 10 Minutes to Downtown Charleston & Folly Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before reserving the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or could be applied to your agreement.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you are enamored with, keep an eye out for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Know before you go:
- Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental while you're out. Protect your property!
- To make certain that damages are not attributed to your visit, inspect for any problem areas upon check in. message the property manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
