Our top Charleston area vacation rental tips and tricks:

Getting the most from your rental budget:

  • Summer is high season in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Selecting the perfect rental in the Charleston area area:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Boutique Home & Resort Pool ‘The Palms’ has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to determine which bed configuration is right for your vacation group.
  • Does your group require specific amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers charge additional pet fees.

More tips for your stay:

  • Take a copy of the host's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental. We recommend storing the host's information in your smartphone.
  • Document any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if there is a dispute.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
  • On check-out day, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did you have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
