Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area rental home experience:
Getting the most from your vacation rental budget:
- Reserve your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Reserve your Charleston area rental property in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, travel guide magazines have discounts for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to select the best vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. LOCATION! Stunning Downtown Home Steps to King St has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property management company before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your agreement.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Advice for a terrific stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents lots of issues.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Protect your property!
- Note any issues with the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are assessed.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have never otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
