Strategies to get the optimal Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Finding the best value:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking in Spring or Fall is a great way to save on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which often include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Make a plan and pick your Charleston area rental:
- Start by choosing your vacation dates and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Tucked in among trees, get away in this charming home short walk to the beach has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available online. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches. You will need to establish what configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Pet fees or charges applied to your contract.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
More considerations:
- Add the owner's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Lock your vacation home while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- During arrival, note any damages to the property and immediately alert the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would've never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to make sure you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to drive more reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
