Tips for getting the perfect vacation rental experience:
Getting the best rental value:
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summertime is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To find the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local tours, shops, and attractions.
Finding the best vacation rental in Charleston:
- To start, have your family choose date ranges and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group needs. Downtown Charleston - Walk Everywhere! 4BR\/4BA has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email or call the property manager before you reserve the property. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or costs applied to your contract.
- Are you looking for special amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Advice for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let crooks spoil your family vacation.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon check in. Get in touch with the rental manager immediately to report any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- At departure, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
