Strategies for getting the perfect Charleston vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental budget:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Reserve your Charleston area vacation in the Spring or Fall to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
  • Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for local accommodations and attractions.

Make a plan and pick a perfectvacation home:

  • To start, have your family select dates and a spending budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Boutique Home & Resort Pool ‘The Palms’ has 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. Otherwise, call the property owner before booking your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is optimal for your family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Know before you go:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the host right away to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like loud vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and attractions you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Lock your vacation home while you are away. Keep your property safe!
  • At departure, complete a walk-through to confirm you haven't forget any personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to stimulate more bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
