Tips to get the perfect rental home experience:
Get the best rental value:
- Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- The earlier your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites often offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for specifics.
- Many management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group needs. ? THE INNS ? Bright & Breezy Large Luxury Suite! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is often available on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is right for your family.
- Is your family looking for specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Add a note with the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- Upon check-in, make note of any damages to the property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and places you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Property managers rely on good feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
