Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area vacation home experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. To get the largest rental home for your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Spring or Fall. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at your favorite Charleston area restaurants and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Often, property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Choosing and booking the rightrental home:
- Choose your vacation dates and budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. ? THE INNS ? Bright & Breezy Large Luxury Suite! has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Put the manager's information in your smartphone.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's visit, make note of any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the property manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let thieves spoil your trip.
- Upon check-out, take a final walk-through to confirm you haven't forget anything. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental one final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Did your group have a great stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental property and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
