Tricks and tips to get the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:

Get the best value:

  • Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, change your family's Charleston area vacation dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • Select your dates and maximum budget.
  • Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Island Retreat - Great for Large Groups has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking pages. If not, email the host before you reserve the rental. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
  • Is your family looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Amenity filters help you quickly remove less-optimal properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
  • If your family is traveling with pets, filter your search for a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the owner's information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • To ensure that no damages are linked to your family's visit, record any problem areas during check in. message the host immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are an excellent source for finding the best local scenic spots.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Keep the property locked while you are away! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Did your family have a fantastic stay? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
