Finding the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
When to book a Charleston area rental home & When to go:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Reserving your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer months are the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your rental property in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration you need. The Inns 5 Bed 3 Bath Luxury Home 2 Blocks to King has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, reach out to the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You'll need to determine what is best for your vacation group.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
More tips for your visit:
- Put the owner's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Record any issues with the property at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Just before checking out, take a final walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take video of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on great feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
