Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston rental home experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- To find the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Booking your rental property up to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Hosts sometimes offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby accommodations and attractions.
Planning and picking the perfect Charleston area rental:
- Start by selecting a vacation week and a max budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Inns 5 Bed 3 Bath Luxury Home 2 Blocks to King has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, call the property owner before you book the vacation property. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your trip.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- If your group is traveling with pets, you will need a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for information on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, property owners charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- To make sure that damages aren't attributed to your visit, note any problem areas during arrival. Speak to the rental manager immediately to report your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Re-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to drive future reservations. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback find their best vacation home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to remedy it.
