Charleston area rental booking tips and tricks:
Sticking to your spending plan:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. Booking a rental in Spring or Fall is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of acceptable homes.
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Some property management companies offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guide magazines have coupons for nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Planning and choosing your prefect Charleston area rental:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Downtown
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property manager before booking the vacation home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Add the owner's phone number to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- Record any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let burglars ruin your vacation.
- Just before checking out, complete a walk-through to confirm you did not leave anything behind. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a excellent stay? Many rental websites make it easy for travelers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
