Strategies to get the perfect Charleston area vacation property experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Reserving a rental home in the Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Property managers sometimes offer special rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special offers are available for your family.
- Property managers often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Filter your rental search:
- Select your dates and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. The Sheppard: Your Group's Ultimate Escape has 8 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property manager before you reserve your home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
- Visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby properties.
- Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. .
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about pet restrictions before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's contact info to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
