How to find the best vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- To get the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your group before you book.
- Property management companies often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include money-saving deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Selecting and booking the bestrental:
- First and foremost, have your family choose date ranges and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. ? THE INNS ? 10 Bedroom Luxe Downtown Home! has 10 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking pages. If not, call the property owner before booking the vacation property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Visiting for a specific event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Remember to include your furry companions! Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or costs might be applied to your agreement.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental property.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be valuable if a dispute arises.
- Property managers are great sources of help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
- Be respectful. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic stay? Most rental home management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
