Tips for getting the best Charleston area rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • To book the most suitable vacation home for your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at popular Charleston area attractions and restaurants.
  • Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts and property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Many management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select a group leader, choose your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Large Groups - Downtown Charleston - 13BR/13BA has 13 bedrooms and 12 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available online. If not, call the host before you reserve the home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish which bed configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to browse nearby properties.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Note that some property managers charge additional pet fees.

Have a fantastic stay:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
  • To ensure that no damages are attributed to your stay, inspect for any problem areas upon your arrival. message the property manager right away to report any damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have not otherwise known about!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Keep your property safe!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the rental a final time and scan for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave a review! Hosts rely on great feedback to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
