Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston area rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental.
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your Charleston area vacation home in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your vacation rental. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and choosing your prefect Charleston area rental:
- Select your vacation week and max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. The Mary Scott and Daniel Legare House has 6 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. If not, call the property owner before you book your rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation.
- If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Get specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Often, hosts charge additional pet fees.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available before booking.
During your stay:
- Be sure you get the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of issues.
- Lock your rental while you are out. Keep your property safe!
- During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
