How to find the best rental home experience:
When to go & When to book:
- Summer time is high season in Charleston. Book your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some property managers offer rate reductions for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guides contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Filter your rental search:
- Select a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Lodge Alley Inn, Charleston, South Carolina, Studio has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before reserving the vacation home. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If there's a specific Charleston area beach you long to visit, browse homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
During your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before leaving home. Save the directions to your smartphone, and take a printed backup.
- During check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent a lot of problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on great feedback to propel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will will be grateful for your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
