Charleston area vacation rental booking tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- Summer is the most expensive season in the Charleston area area. Book your vacation home in Spring or Fall to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites often offer customers an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on nearby accommodations and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the right Charleston area rental:
- Select a group lead, select your trip dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Downtown 3 Bedroom with Lots of Natural Light has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available online. If they are not listed, email or call the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, and others don't. Allowable types of family pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about your furry family members before booking.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Be sure you get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- Record any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately e-mail them to the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are useful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Lock your vacation home while you are away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
- Double-check every room of the rental property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at departure. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
