Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Charleston rental experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the best value, try shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies typically offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guides which include special deals, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect vacation rental in Charleston:
- Start by choosing the best vacation week and a max budget.
- Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. The Lodge Alley Inn™ - Studio has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before you book the home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Is your group looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
Tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- During check-in, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent lots of problems.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, take a walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property a final time and look for any damage. We suggest walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave feedback! Property managers rely on great ratings to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
