Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- To find the most suitable rental within your budget, we suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked very early. Booking your rental property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host whether your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property management companies often offer guests an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally costs between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain coupons for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Selecting and booking the perfectrental home:
- Select a group lead, choose your dates, and choose a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Long term availalbe! Historic Upper King Restoration! Walk to everything! has 2 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is commonly available on booking pages. Otherwise, call the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to determine what bed configuration is suitable for your group.
- Is your group looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property managers charge additional pet fees.
Advice for your stay:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your phone.
- During check-in, record any damages to the property and immediately alert the host. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many concerns.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the rental property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We advise walking through with the host whenever you can. If the manager is not available, take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on great ratings to propel more bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
