Strategies for getting the perfect Charleston area vacation home experience:

How to get the best rental home value:

  • The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked early. Reserving your vacation home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
  • To find the best value, consider changing your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer weather, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your family.
  • Property management companies often offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Choose your dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Downtown-One-of-a-Kind Romantic Luxury Residence 5BR, 3BA Sleeps 10 to 12 has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what is best for your vacation group.
  • If your group is vacationing with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Request details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers charge pet deposits and fees.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Know before you go:

  • Get the property manager's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property. Store the host's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents quite a few concerns.
  • Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let burglars ruin your holiday.
  • Note any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the host. We specifically recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors disrupting your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever possible. If the property manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Did you have a wonderful vacation? Most rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property manager was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
