Our top Charleston rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To get the best rental within your budget, we highly recommend booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular Charleston area attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- The earlier you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental home up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
How to select the perfect rental in Charleston:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. The Grand Millennial in Downtown Charleston has 3 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what is suitable for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Charleston area attraction you simply love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your invoice.
More tips for your stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Note any issues with the rental upon arrival, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are assessed.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the property a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property manager was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
