Finding the best vacation property experience:

When to visit & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer time is high season in Charleston. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is a good way to save on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Some property management companies offer special rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.

Choosing the best rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Choose vacation week and budget.
  • Southern Comfort; Modern Style has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds.
  • Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges might be applied to your contract.
  • If there's a specific Charleston area beach you are crazy about, keep an eye out for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .

More tips for your stay:

  • Add the host's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
  • Protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific source for finding the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings at departure. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest walking through with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to inspire future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
