How to book the best Charleston vacation property experience:
How to get the best value:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. To get the largest rental within budget, we strongly suggest reserving in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at popular attractions and restaurants.
- Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Winter holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer promotional rates for veterans. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Use filters to narrow your search:
- Select a group lead, choose your vacation week, and choose a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. 4 bdr +5 baths
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before booking your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Extra fees or may be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- During arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Hosts are great sources of help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting quiet hours and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would at home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
