Tips for getting the best Charleston vacation home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer months are high season in Charleston. Book your rental home in the Fall or Spring to enjoy gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Booking websites usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines which include coupons, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to pick the perfect rental home in Charleston:
- Choose a designated group leader, choose your vacation dates, and choose a maximum budget.
- Between Beach + Downtown CHS
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is commonly available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you book the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is right for your vacation.
- Does your group require particular amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges applied to your agreement.
Advice for a wonderful stay:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make sure that damages aren't linked to your family's stay, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Call the rental manager immediately to relay your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best breakfast in town, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are away, just like you would back home.
- Double-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave a review! Hosts rely on excellent reviews to stimulate new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will be thankful you shared your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
