Tips and Tricks to get the best Charleston rental experience:
Cost saving strategies:
- The sooner your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Reserving your rental up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is one of our best tips for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Some hosts offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites frequently offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- Select your dates and budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Southern Comfort-Enjoy Charleston! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, email the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
More tips for your visit:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of issues.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Respect your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to compel new reservations. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
