Tips and Tricks to get the optimal Charleston area vacation rental experience:

How to get the best rental value:

  • The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best rental homes are booked early. Reserving your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we recommend booking in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides contain offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Selecting and booking yourvacation home:

  • First and foremost, have your family choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Rooftop Deck with Parking - 3 Blocks to KING! has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property management company before you book the property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You will need to establish what configuration is optimal for your trip.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Allowable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Is your family looking for unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.

Have a great stay:

  • Add the host's information to your phone. Print and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
  • Lock your rental while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking regulations can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You will magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and hangouts.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your group have a excellent vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was wrong and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
