How to find the best Charleston rental home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Summertime is high season in Charleston. To find the best value, change your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Booking websites often offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines contain deals for local accommodations, restaurants and tours.

How to select the best vacation rental in Charleston:

  • Select dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group requires. Charming Ground Floor Suite 6 Blocks To King has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available on booking pages. If not, contact the property manager before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are crazy about, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly property. Request specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.

Tips for your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages are not attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of difficulties.
  • Be respectful. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Double-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
  • Remember to leave feedback! Property owners rely on excellent reviews to inspire future bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
