It's relaxing and peaceful and provides the ideal location for walking to tons of eateries, movie theatre, public golf course, music venue, boat landings and one mile from the county park that offers walking/cycling trails, playgrounds, splash pads, climbing and the only dog park on the island.

Just mins. to downtown Charleston & Folly Beach!
The space
Live oaks provide a canopy over the bungalow and many windows make for a delightfully, well lit spot with tons of natural light. Open floor plan offers a big bay window with bistro seating, a kitchen with pantry, coffee pot, toaster oven, and wall oven, and the living room is cavernous with a couch, bookshelf, coffee table, and sizable TV. The bedroom is just off the living room where you'll find a the separate laundry room, queen bed with two nightstands, dresser, closet and a bathroom that features an alcove.
Guest access
Coastal Cottage is located in the back of the half acre lot. In the front of our property is our sister Airbnb: Live Oak Retreat. It features a 3/2.5 one story home. Guests of Coastal Cottage park directly in front of their home. Guests at Live Oak Retreat park on the left side of the driveaway and along the side of the deck and carport. The right side of the driveway needs to remain open so Coastal Cottage guests can access their home. We have never had any issues with parking but want to make sure all guests are aware of how to share the parking space.
Other things to note
Walking/cycling distance to:

- Municipal Golf Course - open to the public!

- Terrace Theatre - only theatre on the island!

- The Pourhouse - live music every day & don't miss the Sunday Farmer's Market

Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area vacation rental experience:

Get the best rental value:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To find the best value, consider changing your family's Charleston area trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer warm weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your group qualifies for a discount.
  • Property managers typically offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines contain money saving offers on local restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Filter your rental search:

  • Begin by choosing vacation dates and a budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration you need. Private Coastal Cottage on James Island has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is regularly available online. If they are not listed, reach out to the property owner before you book the rental. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Does your family require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental.
  • Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Remember to include your furry companions! Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Remember to ask your host before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your agreement.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Get the property manager's phone number and entry/exit procedures for your rental.
  • Record any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be beneficial if damages are assessed.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll magnify your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local beaches.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • Lock your vacation home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all of your things. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to compel new bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to remedy it.
