How to find the best rental home experience:

Finding your perfect rental home:

  • Reserve your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
  • Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Hosts sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if discounts are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Find a copy of your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, travel guides have discounts for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Choosing the perfect rental home in the Charleston area area:

  • Select your vacation week and budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Angel Oak Suite - King St \/ MUSC has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our vacation rental search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your family.
  • Looking for special amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. .
  • Do your family pets travel with you? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.

During your stay:

  • Take a copy of the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
  • To make certain that damages are not attributed to your stay, note any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the rental manager right away to record your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be useful.
  • Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peace. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are out, just like you would back home.
  • When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget anything. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great vacation? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
