Tricks and tips to get the very best Charleston area rental home experience:
How to get the best rental value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer.
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually open 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually will cost between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for specifics.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have discounts for local accommodations, tours and attractions.
Finding the best rental:
- Select a designated group leader, select your vacation dates, and choose a budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Liberty Place Charleston, a Hilton Club - Studio (3rd Floor Only) has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is regularly accessible on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, reach out to the property owner before you reserve the rental. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are enamored with, look for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking
- Traveling with pets? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs applied to your contract.
Tips for a great stay:
- Get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Property managers are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental home while you are out and about. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property one final time and look for damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition.
- Did your group have a wonderful vacation? Many rental home management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your property and/or host was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
