How to find the best Charleston area vacation rental experience:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- Summer is the most expensive season along the coast of SC. To book the best rental within budget, we highly recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rental rates, greater selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and picking a perfect Charleston area rental:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Open and Comfy home w\/ HOT TUB near Downtown-Folly Beach has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed types is usually available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before you book the property. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. .
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly rental. Get details on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Some property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
Additional considerations:
- We recommend storing the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- Upon arrival, note any issues with the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents a lot of difficulties.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to make sure you've collected all personal belongings. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to fix it.
