Our top Charleston area rental property booking tips:
Get the best value:
- Book your rental as early as possible. Rental schedules often open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, try shifting your family's Charleston area vacation week to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guides contain money saving offers on local shops and restaurants.
Make a plan and pick the best Charleston area rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family choose dates and a budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your group requires. 17 Sandcrab Court by AvantStay
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the property management company before reserving the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
- Some rentals allow pets, but some do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- If there's an individual Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all necessary amenities are included before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Add the host's phone number to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the host. Record all correspondence just in case a dispute arises.
- Respect the neighborhood. Often, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property owners rely on good feedback to stimulate new bookings. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationing families will appreciate that you share your review find their best vacation home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the owner could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
