How to book the best Isle of Palms vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- Summer months are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area rental in Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental property six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
- Often, rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guide magazines that include money-saving offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Planning and picking the perfect Charleston area rental home:
- Start by having your group commit to the best dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Gorgeous Quiet Lakefront Beach Cottage Inside Wild Dunes! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Precise details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually available on booking websites. If they are not listed, call the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to determine what is right for your vacation.
- If there's a particular Charleston area beach you crave, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking
- If your family is bringing pets, you must book a rental that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type requirements. Be aware that some property owners charge additional pet fees.
Additional considerations:
- Add the property manager's contact info to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- To make certain damages are not attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas during arrival. Call the property manager right away to relay any issues. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be useful.
- Hosts are available to help! Don't be shy to ask questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peace and quiet. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- At departure, complete a final walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good reviews to stimulate more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
