Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To book the best vacation home within budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, better selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
  • Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules often open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families book their Summer rental homes during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for more information.
  • Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which often include special offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Narrow your Search:

  • First, have your group decide on a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. Monthly Executive Rental in the ? of Downtown! 1BR has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is generally available online. If you don't see them listed, email the property manager before reserving the rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your group.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental home.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Get the host's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental.
  • To make sure that no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas upon check in. Speak to the host immediately to document your findings. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of problems.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You'll enhance your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are usually a great source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Lock your rental property while you are out! Don't let burglars spoil your holiday.
  • Double-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, remember to take pictures of the rental to record its condition.
  • Leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent ratings to propel new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will appreciate that you share your review find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the property manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded quickly to solve it.
