Isle of Palms rental booking tips:
Sticking to your rental home budget:
- The sooner you can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- Summer is high season in the Charleston area area. Book your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective vacation rental company or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Property management companies frequently offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guides have coupons for local tours and attractions.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- First and foremost, have your group commit to a vacation week and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group needs. Modern Villa in Wild Dunes! OCEAN VIEW! Great Central Location! Walk to Amenities! has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area vacation rental search.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is usually available online. If not, reach out to the property owner before reserving your home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to determine which bed configuration is optimal for your group.
- If your family is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Request information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Be aware that some property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
- Are you visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
More considerations for your visit:
- Be sure you get the property manager's contact number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call can prevent lots of issues.
- Lock your rental property while you are away! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are helpful if a dispute arises.
- Respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- At departure, take a walk-through to make sure you didn't forget any personal items. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the property one final time and keep an eye out for damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent feedback to stimulate future bookings. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other families will will be grateful for your experience find their best vacation rental. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
