Strategies to get the best vacation property experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Summertime is the most expensive season in coastal SC. To get the best value, consider changing your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
  • The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are booked early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and book your vacation home.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners typically offer renters an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for program terms and fees.
  • Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • First, have your family agree to dates and a spending budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family needs. The Iris- 2ndF- 1Bed, 1Bath-Sleeps 4- Pet-Friendly w\/ a fee- 8mins to Joe Riley has 1 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the property management company before you book the property. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish what configuration is right for your vacation family.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include amenity lists and search filters. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the best rental home.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask your host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Put the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Upon arrival, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Record all coorespondence.
  • Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions before, during, or after your stay.
  • Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are a fantastic source for finding the best local attractions.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Residents can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Lock your rental while you're away. Keep your property safe!
  • Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Please make sure to walk through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host is not available, take pictures of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
