Our top Rental home booking tips and tricks:

Cost saving strategies:

  • The earlier your group can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked early. Booking your rental property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
  • June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons to get the benefit of warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the high season.
  • Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for details.
  • Many property management companies supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Start by choosing your potential vacation weeks and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Bee St - Downtown w\/ Parking - Walk Everywhere! has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rental home search.
  • Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, contact the host before you book the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
  • If your group is bringing pets, you'll need to search for a rental that allows animals. Ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property managers require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Visiting for a single attraction or event? If so, use a map search to find nearby properties.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking.

During your stay:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Save the directions to your phone, and take a printed backup.
  • Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Lock your rental home while you're away. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Note any damages to the property at check in, and immediately contact the property manager. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant visitors bothering your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was out of order and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
