Getting the best Charleston rental experience:
Money saving strategies:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental property 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental property.
- June, July, and August are high season in the Charleston area area. Booking your vacation rental in the Fall or Spring is a good way to save money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have coupons for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the perfect vacation home in the Charleston area area:
- Start by choosing vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration you need. 2BR Suite in Gorgeous Antebellum Mansion has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is regularly available on booking websites. Otherwise, call the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Visiting for a single attraction or event? Try a map search to find nearby properties.

More tips for your stay:
- Add the host's contact information to your phone. Understand and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make sure that damages are not linked to your stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the host immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific source for finding the best local scenic spots.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items at departure. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on good ratings to inspire new bookings. They'll be much obliged for your review. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other vacationers will will be grateful for your experience find their best rental home. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to solve it.
