Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Getting the best rental value:
- Summertime is the most expensive season in Isle of Palms. To find the most suitable rental for your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, tours, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- The earlier your group can book, the easier your search will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to plan and book your vacation rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers usually offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitor guide magazines have money saving offers on nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting and booking the rightrental home:
- Choose your vacation dates and maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Oceanfront Condo in Wild Dunes! Community Pool! Great View Looking at Beach! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always available on booking pages. If they are not listed, call the property management company before booking the vacation property. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches.
- Looking for particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Remember to confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental
- If your group is bringing pets, you will need a rental that allows animals. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Note that some hosts charge additional pet fees.
Tips for your stay:
- Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make certain damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. E-mail the rental manager immediately to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your vacation home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
- Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings at check-out. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
