Booking the best Charleston vacation property experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many groups book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- To get the best value, change your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Remember to ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, travel guides contain money saving offers on nearby tours and attractions.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing your vacation dates and a max budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Exquisite Downtown 5BR\/4.5BA Historic Gem has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our Charleston area rentals search.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, email or call the host before you book the rental. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull out couches in living rooms.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a property that allows animals. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's a certain Charleston area destination you are crazy about, browse properties that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before reserving a rental
More considerations:
- Review check in & check out procedures before traveling. Add a note with the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, stereo or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- Make a record of any issues with the property during check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be very helpful if damages are attributed to your stay.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and scan for damage. We suggest walking through with the host whenever you can. If the property manager is not available, ensure that you take photos and video of the property to record its condition.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on excellent feedback to propel new reservations. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other families will will be grateful for your feedback find their best vacation rental. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
