Tips and Tricks to get the very best Charleston area rental experience:

Finding your perfect rental:

  • To get the best rental within your budget, we strongly suggest reserving in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Book your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • Some hosts offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer customers an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
  • Look for your local Charleston area area magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitor guides have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

Planning and picking your prefectrental home:

  • Choose dates and max budget.
  • Note the number bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Gracious Charleston Home With Porch Located Two Blocks From Upper King Street has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Precise information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible on booking pages. If not, reach out to the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your needs.
  • Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Some properties allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask the property management company about your furry family members before booking.

More tips for your visit:

  • Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the instructions to your smartphone.
  • To make sure damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas upon your arrival. Get in touch with the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Use the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
  • Protect the rental owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, take a walk through the property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Inspect the property one final time and keep an eye out for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take photographs of the property to record its condition.
  • Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many rental managers make it easy for guests to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was defective and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
