How to book the best Charleston vacation property experience:

Get the most from your rental home budget:

  • In the Charleston area area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your rental property.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in the Charleston area area. To book the most suitable rental within budget, we strongly suggest booking in Fall or Spring. You'll enjoy lower rates, better selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of large crowds at Charleston area restaurants, beaches, and activities.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which usually costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
  • Often, management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area travel guide magazines which will include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area area magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.

Planning and picking the best Charleston area rental:

  • Choose vacation dates and budget.
  • Decide how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family needs. Elegant End-unit Townhouse in Historic Charleston has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always available online. If not, email the property manager before you book the vacation property. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out which bed configuration is best for your vacation group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you must reserve a property that allows animals. Get details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Some hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before reserving a rental

More considerations:

  • Add the owner's contact info to your smartphone. Understand and take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental property while you are gone! Don't let thieves ruin your trip.
  • Note any issues with the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are useful if there is a dispute.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be an incredible resource to find the best local attractions.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
  • On check-out day, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did you have a terrific vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for clients to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear about it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
