Strategies to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
Get the best rental home value:
- The earlier your group can book, the better your selection will be. The most desirable properties are reserved early. Booking your rental six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. Reserve your Charleston area vacation in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans. Ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies usually offer renters an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many rental management companies supply Charleston area area travel guides which will include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or through a relationship between the management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Planning and picking your Charleston area rental:
- First, have your group select the best dates and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration you need. Elegant End-unit Townhouse in Historic Charleston has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is generally accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property manager before you reserve the home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- If your family is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Be aware that some hosts charge pet deposits and fees.
- If there's an individual Charleston area destination you are enamored with, search for properties that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
Considerations for your stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, television set or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few difficulties.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- Note any damages to the rental upon arrival, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are valuable if a dispute is filed.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make local friends, and resident neighbors are often a terrific resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was great, they would love to hear it. If anything was defective and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
