Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Reserving your rental 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your vacation rental.
  • Booking your vacation home in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is a great way to save on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
  • Property management companies often offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for specifics.
  • Often, management companies supply Charleston area area visitors guides that include coupons, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.

Use filters to narrow your search:

  • First, have your family select dates and a maximum budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. Fun Family-Friendly Home near Folly with Big Yard! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
  • Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property owner before you book the home. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish what is optimal for your vacation family.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, and some do not. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the property management company about pets before booking.
  • Does your family require unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .

Tips to have a terrific stay:

  • Get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, intercom or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent quite a few issues.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
  • Note any damages to the property during check in, and immediately contact the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if a dispute arises.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home life. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and places you would have never otherwise known about!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to order the best nachos, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the rental to confirm you've collected all personal items. Check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Go through the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
  • Remember to leave a review! Property owners rely on great reviews to compel future reservations. They'll be thankful for your review. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
