How to get the best Charleston rental experience:

When to visit Charleston & When to reserve a Charleston area rental home:

  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
  • The sooner your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental property up to 12 months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
  • Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner if your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
  • Booking websites frequently offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local tours and attractions.

Selecting the perfect rental:

  • Begin by selecting your a vacation week and a max budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Fun Family-Friendly Home near Folly with Big Yard! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is right for your group.
  • If there's a certain Charleston area attraction you are enamored with, search for rentals that are either nearby, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Proper accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for the less-mobile. .
  • Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or might be applied to your contract.

More considerations for your visit:

  • Take a copy of the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
  • To make certain damages are not linked to your visit, inspect the property for any problem areas when you arrive. Get in touch with the rental manager right away to report any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be very helpful.
  • Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask questions during your stay.
  • Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome vacationers disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are gone, just like you would at home.
  • Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget any personal items. Make sure to check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide reviews. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
