Tricks and tips to get the optimal Charleston area rental home experience:
Get the most from your rental home budget:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your rental.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Charleston. Booking in Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your family qualifies for a special promotion or discount.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, tours and attractions.
Selecting the perfect vacation rental:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and select a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and the configuration your family requires. Fun Family-Friendly Home near Folly with Big Yard! has 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available on booking pages. If not, email the host before reserving the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or may be applied to your invoice.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental.
Have a fantastic stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before traveling. Take a printed copy, and save the directions to your phone.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, elevator or coffee maker. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many issues.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are away, just like you would at home.
- During arrival, make note of any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful vacationers disrupting your peace and quiet. Employ the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Remember to leave feedback! Property managers rely on good reviews to propel more bookings. They'll be much obliged for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other families will appreciate that you share your review and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to solve it.
