Our top Vacation rental home tips and tricks:

When to go & When to reserve a Charleston rental home:

  • Reserve your vacation rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer vacations during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Charleston. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer warm temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Some owners offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
  • Booking websites typically offer guests an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
  • Often, property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitors guides which will include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.

Planning and picking the best Charleston area rental home:

  • Choose a group leader, select your vacation week, and choose a max budget.
  • Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group needs. Downtown Charleston House - One block from King Street! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
  • Specific details about bedrooms and bed types is often accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving your home. Note that most listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes pull out couches in living rooms. You will need to establish what is suitable for your vacation group.
  • If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to search for a pet-friendly property. Ask for information on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Usually, hosts charge additional pet fees.
  • If there's a particular Charleston area beach you crave, search for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
  • Proper accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

More considerations:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Lock your rental home while you are out. Protect the owner's property and your things!
  • Make a record of any damages to the property during check in, and immediately send them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that are very helpful if damages are assessed.
  • Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking restrictions can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. Be a good neighbor. You'll enhance your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a terrific resource to find the best local restaurants, beaches, and hangouts.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Residents can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
  • Double-check the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings on check-out day. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
  • Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
  • Did your family have a great time? Most rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide comments. If your property and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
