THE APARTMENT ITSELF
The apartment is entered from the second floor piazza overlooking historic rooftops, set in the back, away from any street noise. The living/kitchen space combines a handsome new kitchen that opens into a comfortable, gorgeous living room. It has a brand new West Elm queen couch sleeper with high end gel bed. There are two matching club chairs, one more chair, and an eating counter with stools. The granite counter opens onto the brand new kitchen with granite counter tops, all new stainless steel appliances (stove, refrigerator, dishwasher, sink and disposal, microwave) and a roomy pantry. Over the counter is a inch flat screen tv. Throughout the apartment you will savor the handsome wood floors.

The three designer BEDROOMS have full closets and chests of drawers and dressing tables, bedside tables and reading lamps. One bedroom has a new king bed and the other two rooms have new queen size beds. The two bathrooms are conveniently accessed and have new granite counters, new sinks and granite floors. Tucked into one bathroom is a stack washer/dryer

In one bedroom is a drop leaf antique mahogany table that can effortlessly be set up for more formal dining in the living room and 6 pretty dining room chairs that complete the chic setting.

The piazza is a typical striking Charleston feature and helps give our guests a true sense of being a "Charlestonian". We have seating for 6 where you can appreciate your morning coffee or afternoon drink after exploring the cozy streets, stores and eateries.

There is complimentary PARKING for 1 car and, for a fee, parking for a second car.

GROUPS
On the first floor of this building is a freshly modernized 2 bedroom/2 bathroom apartment and next door to these apartments is another Vacation Rental By Owner by the same owner with 3 bedrooms. The three units combine to make an ideal setting for a bigger group. The office of our property manager, Jamie, is in this building. She always receives rave reviews for her help in resolving your traveling issues. She will arrange your parking pass and can help you find a chef or book a fishing or sailing excursion. Just ask!

This apartment is fresh, cozy, comfortable and tasteful. It has been inspired by one of the best, authentic Charleston designers.

LEGAL & BEST LOCATION
This appealing three bedroom completely refreshed apartment is appealingly located in the newly designated legal "short term overlay" for legal short term rental in Charleston. Within the overlay, this property is in the southernmost part of that area which means it is as close as you can legally be to the South of Broad/Calhoun St historic districts without an owner present. Be sure to study the map because not all "historic" properties are so well located.

HISTORIC AND MODERN
In addition, some properties in the overlay are new construction. When visiting historic Charleston, why would you want to stay in a new condo when you can stay in a "Carolopolis" award winning historic building which has been freshly updated with all the modern amenities?

THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Slightly north of the College of Charleston on historic St. Philip Street this impressive apartment is the ideal base to enjoy an enchanting Charleston experience. Charleston is like Rome, Italy in that most of the notable monuments and historic details are found in a fairly contained area. You can literally walk from the apartment to the southernmost extremes of the Historic District in under 30 mins.. This journey will take you through the Historic King Street District and the neighborhoods of Cannonborough, Elliottborough, Radcliffborough, Harleston Village and finally South of Broad until you reach the Battery itself.

Go east one block and you are on King Street, the home of designer stores, eclectic stores, antiques stores and a host of other fascinating stores as well as nationally acclaimed eateries. Upper King is the new center of Charleston's acclaimed restaurant and nighttime life. A recent survey of the "essential 18 Charleston Eateries" has seven of their eateries (Hominy Grille, Indago, The Grocery, The Macintosh, The Ordinary, Two Boroughs Larder, Xiao Bao Biscuit) within four blocks of the apartment.

OTHER PROPERTIES

This property of one of a group of properties called St Philip Square. It is possible to rent numerous properties if you have a wedding or corporate group or a family reunion. The other properties are: Vacation Rental By Owner #1351757 (2 bedroom, 2 bath in this same building); Vacation Rental By Owner #56755 (a stand alone bungalow next door with 3 bedrooms and 2 baths) and Vacation Rental By Owner #1446527 (3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 doors away). We are also bringing on multiple more units (some bigger, some smaller) in the same area in the spring, so check back if you don’t find what meets your needs.
If you are visiting in Charleston and need to sleep from 2 to 72 people...in award winning historic properties...delightfully renovated with striking decor and parking, St Philip Square is your answer!

You need to look carefully to realize our location is noticeably closer to South of Broad, with substantial historic buildings, with appeal and character not possible in new construction, in a community setting where groups can gather, in an area where it's possible to rent without the owner present, in properties that sparkle with stunning remodel and beautiful decor. We have a unique offering for wedding groups, family get-togethers, business retreats, friends traveling together, honeymooners, anniversary celebrants or families with kids.

St Philip Square offers 8 properties within a "square" that opens onto a shared parking area. Each apartment is a separate unit with unique characteristics. It is the ideal opportunity for groups of all sizes to organize a joint rental but each apartment is separate and is its own place. The vrbo numbers for the other properties are:
1531369 1446527. 1994546. 1994547 1994550
1351757. 1662029. 834186. 567555. 467877
1994548 1994549
(You might have to put ha at the end. Or vr.)
If you put these numbers into a Vacation Rental By Owner search without dates you will be able to view each listing.

TEAVEL INSURANCE AND CREDIT CARD INFO
We strongly advise during the month of September particularly, and some into October that you purchase trip insurance. It is the peak of hurricane season in our area. The optional trip insurance offered through Vacation Rental By Owner would cover any weather related cancellation. We do not offer refunds or date changes for any reason outside the cancellation period.

About the Area

This apartment is located in Downtown Charleston, a walkable area in Charleston with great shopping. Charleston City Market and Upper King Design District are worth checking out if shopping is on the agenda, while those wishing to experience the area's natural beauty can explore Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historical Park and Marion Square. Traveling with kids? Consider Patriots Point, or check out an event or a game at TD Arena. Take an opportunity to explore the area for water adventures such as motor boating.

Tips for getting the perfect Charleston area rental experience:

Finding your best deal:

  • Book your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules often become available a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserve your rental home in the Fall or Spring to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
  • Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property management company or host if your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction.
  • Property management companies frequently offer guests an option to buy trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which usually costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for details.
  • Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great articles, visitor guides contain discounts for nearby tours and attractions.

Filter your search:

  • Select your vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Decide how many beds and the configuration your family requires. (8D) Alexander Wilson House at St. Philip Square has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is normally available online. Otherwise, contact the property management company before you reserve your home. Remember that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out which bed configuration is suitable for your vacation group.
  • Some rental properties allow pets, but some don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Does your group require special amenities? Most rental websites include search filters for amenities.
  • Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Tips for your stay:

  • Add the property manager's contact information to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
  • Hosts are there to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
  • Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would back home.
  • To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, record any problem areas upon your arrival. Call the rental manager right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
  • Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
  • Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best seashells, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
  • Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever possible. If the property manager is not available, take video of the property to record its condition.
  • Did you have a excellent stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was wrong and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
