Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Summertime is high season in the Charleston area area. Reserve your Charleston area rental in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with friends and family at the beach.
- The earlier you can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Reserving your rental home up to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation rental.
- Some property managers offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your property manager if special discounts are available for your family.
- Property management companies typically offer their guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Charleston area visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have coupons for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Choose vacation week and budget.
- Determine how many beds and the bed configuration your group requires. Coziest place on earth: 4.4 mi to DT Chas, hospitals, colleges, 7.4 Folly Beach has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is often accessible on booking pages. If not, email or call the host before you book the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to work out what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most rental websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your invoice.
Advice for a fantastic stay:
- Put the owner's contact information in your smartphone.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, make a record of any problem areas when you arrive. Make contact with the rental manager immediately to relay any pre-existing damages. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to confirm you've collected all personal belongings. Remember to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden treasure. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the property one final time and scan for any damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful time? Most rental managers make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear it. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
