Tips and Tricks to get the perfect vacation rental experience:
When to visit & When to book:
- In the Charleston area area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best rental properties are reserved very early. Booking your rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
- Summer is high season in Charleston. Booking your Charleston area vacation rental in Fall or Spring is our favorite way to save money on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Charleston area vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Some property managers offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property management companies typically offer renters an option to purchase trip insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost you anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for details.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Charleston area area visitor guide magazines that include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship with the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Charleston area visitors guide and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Selecting and booking the rightrental:
- Choose dates and budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. The Jasmine Suite At Morrison Manor On Third Floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our search.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is almost always accessible online. If they are not listed, contact the property owner before you reserve your home. Remember that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds in living rooms. You will need to determine what configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
- If there's a particular Charleston area beach you simply love, look for properties that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are available before reserving a rental.
Additional considerations:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are away, just like you would at home.
- To ensure that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, inspect the property for any problem areas upon your arrival. Make contact with the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be valuable.
- Don't forget to respect your neighbors. Frequently, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Locals can often help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a great vacation? Most rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your comments.
